About Thailand

Situated in the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is well known for its hospitable and friendly people, its beautiful beaches and ancient culture. It was known as Siam until 1939 and is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power.

It is bordered to the north by Laos and Myanmar, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and Myanmar.

Thailand’s capital and largest city is Bangkok, a sprawling urban centre that is home to numerous multinational corporations. The city is also Thailand’s centre of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities.
