Poland derives its name from the word 'pole' or field, because of the country's flat terrain. Located in central Europe, it covers an area of 312,700 square kilometers, and shares boundaries with Germany to the west, the Czech and Slovak Republics to the south and Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Russia to the east. It is the 9th largest country in Europe and the largest economy in Central Europe with its population of 38.4 million.
