The United Kingdom (UK) comprises of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the off-lying islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border, sharing it with the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. The largest island, Great Britain, is linked to France by the Channel Tunnel. As a member of the European Union (EU), UK is part of the world's largest trading entity, with more than 370 million consumers. In addition, UK is also a major market and economy in itself with a population close to 60 million and the lowest barriers to inward foreign direct investment among OECD countries.
