Home to the Taj Mahal and the Ganges River, India is the world’s seventh largest country and the second most populous. It gained independence from the UK in 1947 and has since modernised itself into one of the world’s most important emerging markets.
It borders Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Indonesia.
